The front or anterior raise is usually done with dumbbells -- either an arm at a time or with both arms simultaneously. It targets the front shoulder muscles and the upper chest.
Not to be confused with the side or lateral raise, the front raise has the arms raising weights directly in front of the body rather than at the sides. Some trainers can be seen morphing the two of these together so that dumbbells are raised with bent elbows somewhere at an angle to the body. Stick to one or the other and follow proper form for each.
