How to Do the Lateral Raise

The lateral or side raise is an exercise for the shoulder muscles, mostly the middle deltoid.

If you raise above horizontal, the trapezius, the big muscle at the base of the neck of the upper back, comes into play.

It's not wise to lift too heavy with this exercise because the shoulder joint is a little vulnerable in this position.
