Fitness balls, swiss balls, exercise balls, fitballs - they're those bouncy big bags of air that we exercise on at the gym or at home.
EB Brands have issued a "technical" recall on 3 million of their balls, which, reports claim, can burst unexpectedly if overinflated. Bally Total Fitness, Everlast, Valeo and Body Fit fitballs, all made by EB Brands, are involved in the recall. It's a technical recall because EB Brands won't actually be taking the balls back unless they have burst; only issuing updated instructions.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced: "Consumers should contact EB Brands to receive a copy of the updated instructions on how to safely inflate the ball. The recall involves rubber fitness balls sold in 55-, 65- and 75-cm diameter sizes. The fitness balls were sold with a pump and inflation instructions."
According to the CPSC, 47 people have reported a burst fitness ball since 2000. It seems that some people have been injured, including reports of a fracture and bruises. When they burst, users can fall to the floor and injure themselves.
