Losing weight, and the methods that people find successful, cover a wide spectrum. Eat less and exercise more is still the overarching strategy, but within that some success stories have their own tales to tell. What successful weight training programs have worked for you? Share Your Success Story
Low carb
- Metabolic typing works. Five month ago, I started low carb diet with about 1.5 hours exercise daily. Lost 60 pounds in 5 months. The beauty of low-carb diet is that I do not have the craving as I used to have, thus not eating as much any more. I truly believe that I am of the protein type. It has been very easy for me to gain weight. I had some success in losing weight by restricting calorie intake. But none of them was as easy, nor as successful as this low-carb approach. A recent check-up with my Doctor shows that my HDL is much gigher and LDL is lower. Triglyceride is much lower. Will continue no doubt.

a note about weight lifting
- In the listed myths above, it does not stress the IMPORTANCE of weight training. It is simple: muscle burns fat. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. It is important to both, strength train AND cardio. For women who just wanna feel good and get in shape, 2 a week should be great, with 3-5 days of cardio...!

psychologist
- lifestyle changes works. Making eating healthy, exercise and sleep a good habit. Stopping and Starting causing the yo yo effect and is totally distructive on all levels. Detailed diets and work straedgy, training routines can get to be over whelming to a good many people which sends them into got to bail out, its too much. My best advice is keep it simple and easily manageable.

Cyclic weight training with cardio
- I can only say what worked for me which was to do some intense lifting (circuit style)for 2 weeks with some moderate cardio, then doing two weeks of light weights and lots of cardio. I almost always gained a pound or two in the first weeks but would lose fat (measured by calipers) I also swear by my heart rate monitor to calculate my calories burned so I could ensure I was maintaining a good calorie deficit.

Gadgets
- Using an iPod with Nike trainer gadget really works! I went from a non-runner to being able to run 10km+ easily (well, maybe not so easily) in about 3 months, and I gained much better definition as I lost my winter pudginess. Having good feedback like this tool gives is motivating (read Wired article here http://bit.ly/TpOO7)

My Success
- Last year I dropped 30 lbs from 270 to 240 lbs. I workout 5 days/week Circuit training on a Weider cable machine, & 20 min cardio on a stair climber. 2 nights do I do Heaver wieights less reps & HIIT cardio on the stair climber. This has made the biggest improvement. I had plateaued at 20 lbs/5 months - until I added the HIIT sessions in 7th month, then the weight started to drop again. It was difficult for me to do HIIT since I've had a knee replacement. The stair climber worked out well for this. My new target is 225 lbs.

Got a Dog
- I adopted a very active dog. The two long walks that he needs each day has whittled my waist. I eat healthy, but I no longer have to worry about portion size, I can eat as much as I want. I love the company of a dog - walking is now fun and interesting.
